MONTREAL, Aug. 20, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Assembly of Eastern Christian Churches in Canada will hold a press conference this Friday at 11:00 a.m., in order to : (1) call for a peaceful march on Sunday, August 24, in solidarity with victims of violence in Syria and Iraq, especially the persecuted religious minorities, in particular the Christians of the Middle East; (2) answer questions concerning the barbarous massacres: decapitations and systematic crucifixions of these populations because of their faith and identity. Quebec citizens are invited to participate in this gathering so that together we may denounce these genocidal horrors.

The press conference will be presided by His Excellency Paul Marwan Tabet, Maronite Bishop of Canada and spokesperson for the Assembly of Eastern Christian Churches in Canada.

Canadians and Quebeckers belonging to these churches represent more than a million people living in Quebec and across Canada for three generations. The number of Christians in the Middle East living under threat of extinction is estimated at 12 to 15 million, divided into eleven Eastern Christian churches.
