NorthX invests $2.5M in five women-led climate tech ventures

Investments will help move companies toward commercial production, supporting jobs and economic opportunities across sectors in Canada

VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 10, 2026 /CNW/ -- NorthX Climate Tech, a non-profit investor in climate hard-tech, announced $2.5M in funding for five women-led ventures developing technologies that cut emissions, reduce waste, protect critical infrastructure, and build domestic manufacturing capacity across critical Canadian industries.

The investments are part of NorthX's Women in Climate Tech initiative, which addresses a persistent gap in access to capital for women founders, while helping promising climate hard tech move from technology validation toward commercial scale.

"Women founders are developing solutions to economic, industrial, and climate challenges facing Canada," said Sarah Goodman, President and CEO of NorthX. "These five companies reflect the depth of innovation being created here in British Columbia. If we want to turn that innovation into companies that scale and create economic value here at home, we need to make sure founders have access to the early capital and commercialization support to prove their technologies and reach the market."

The five companies receiving funding are:

Carbonyx is tackling carbon emissions and concrete waste by transforming captured CO₂ and industrial waste into advanced materials. NorthX funding will support demonstration units in British Columbia to validate the technology, capture CO₂, and divert concrete waste from landfill.

Insporos Technologies is reducing agricultural waste and improving biosecurity through AI-powered, non-destructive seed analysis that identifies seed quality and disease risk before planting. NorthX funding will help generate field evidence to validate the technology and support adoption by growers and seed companies.

PermaC Land & Environment Inc. is addressing the climate and infrastructure risks of thawing permafrost by stabilizing vulnerable ground and reducing the greenhouse gas emissions it releases. NorthX funding will help generate performance data to validate the technology and support deployment in Arctic communities.

Seafoam Materials is developing carbon-storing building materials made from seaweed and upcycled waste to reduce emissions from construction. NorthX funding will support pilot manufacturing needed to scale production and accelerate the transition to lower carbon building materials.

Tydra Labs is developing an alternative to microplastics in cosmetics by growing waste-derived biopolymers. NorthX funding will support the development of BC's first decentralized fungal fermentation facility, helping move the technology from lab-scale innovation toward pilot manufacturing.

These five new investments build on NorthX's commitment to backing Canadian founders turning climate innovation into industry, the jobs, supply chains and export capacity that Canada needs.

Since its inception, NorthX has committed more than $36 million across 45 projects to companies with women in leadership, representing more than 58% of NorthX's total capital commitments to date. These investments have helped unlock over $430 million in additional capital, or almost $12 in additional capital for every NorthX dollar committed. This demonstrates the impact targeted early-stage capital can have in helping companies grow and scale.
