Northern Gateway is Right for Working Families in B.C.
B.C. Labourers', Operating Engineers and Teamsters Welcome the Federal Decision to Approve Northern Gateway
VANCOUVER, June 17, 2014 /CNW/ - As proud members of three of British Columbia's leading building trades unions – representing more than 25,000 B.C. workers – we welcome today's decision by the federal government to approve the Northern Gateway Pipeline.
The Labourers' International Union of North America, Local 1611; The International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 115; and the Teamsters Local Union 213 represent one of the best construction workforces anywhere in the world. We look forward to building this world class project with the highest environmental and safety standards that British Columbians both expect and deserve.
Like all British Columbians, we want a strong economy, good jobs and a clean environment to leave to our children and grandchildren. Northern Gateway will create 3,000 jobs during construction and 560 long term jobs in B.C. and it has been through the most rigorous environmental review of its kind in Canadian history. It will also generate billions of dollars in new revenue to support vital health care and education programs working families depend on as well as new skills and training opportunities for young people.
For these reasons, we are proud to support Northern Gateway and welcome the federal government's decision to approve the project. It is the right project for working families in B.C.
