Fighting Child Sexual Abuse in Nunavut
Child Sexual Abuse crosses all social and economic boundaries and the impact of absue can have deep ramifications - suicide, alcohol and drug abuse, increased risk behaviors and the perpetuation of abuse. The Embrace Life Council began in 2003 with the recognition that there needed to be a coordinated initiative in addressing the high suicide rates in Nunavut. Together, Voice Found and the Embrace Life Council, working at the grassroots level in Nunavut, will help build a healthy community through education, awareness and indivual responsibility.
"As part of the Nunavut Suicide Prevention Strategy Action Plan, we are working to address the issue of child sexual abuse by empowering parents and caregivers through education." Jenny Tierney, Executive Director of the Embrace Life Council.
