Next-Generation Ice Hockey Skates Appear Tonight in Vancouver 2010 Olympic
Winter Games

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 16 /CNW/ -- A new breed of high-performance ice hockey skates will make its Olympic debut during tonight's Men's Ice Hockey Group B premier between Russia and Latvia. Made "for skaters, by skaters," MLX is considered a game-changer for the sport of ice hockey and will be worn by Team Russia's Sergei Gonchar and Evgeni Malkin.

Unlike standard ice hockey skates, MLX combines a moldable boot with a fully-adjustable chassis and enhanced blade. Although similar customized components revolutionized the speed skating world nearly 25 years ago, they were never applied to ice hockey until now. The result is a blend of comfort and technology that complements a player's individual biomechanics and increases performance. The skates also improve protection by incorporating a composite shell to distribute force away from the foot.

The newly-patented design was created by four-time U.S. Olympic speed skater Dave Cruikshank and Scott Van Horne, the world leader in high-performance speed skate manufacturing. The MLX team also includes four-time Olympian and 1994 Olympic silver medalist, Andy Gabel, and Curtis Brackenbury, an 11-year veteran of the NHL and WHA.
