NexJ Systems Adds Terminology Services to NexJ Connected Wellness
Sharing of health records through semantic normalization and interoperability of health systems will be enabled
TORONTO, Feb. 20, 2013 /CNW/ - NexJ Systems Inc., (TSX: NXJ) a provider of cloud-based software, delivering enterprise solutions for the financial services, insurance, and healthcare industries, today announced it is expanding the capability of NexJ Connected Wellness with the addition of an embedded terminology engine to both standardize the data within the platform in support of interoperability and analytics, and to enable the translation of complex medical terminology into consumer-friendly, multi-language support. The terminology engine, known as the VOCTM, has been proven in clinical use in multiple settings, and has been perpetually licensed by NexJ for inclusion in all NexJ Health Solutions.
"The ability to standardize health record data from unstructured sources such PHRs, EMRs, EHRs, and HIEs is crucial to advancing healthcare," said David Shepherd, Chief Technology Officer, NexJ Systems. "The semantic normalization provided by the VOCTM terminology engine will enable improved interoperability and translation of medical terms in to lay language the patient can understand. This furthers our ability to deliver solutions that support a people-centered model of care."
The VOC is a comprehensive business intelligence "language integrator" designed to enable semantic interoperability amongst electronic healthcare platforms. It supports multiple lexicons including SNOMED-CT, LOINC, ICD-9/10, CPT4, and RXNORM, as well as others. It also provides the ability to map between these lexicons, enabling interoperability between multiple IT systems. It supports English, French, and Spanish.
According to Eric Gombrich, NexJ's Sr. Vice President & General Manager of Health Solutions, "This advanced capability not only provides a critical foundational component to NexJ Connected Wellness, but can be included with our other solutions to provide tremendous capabilities to providers, payers, IT developers, and ultimately patients themselves."
