MISSISSAUGA, ON, Nov. 17 /CNW/ - Wrestlers from the newly opened Akhara of Champions wrestling club have won six medals in the qualifying rounds organized by the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association (www.oawa.ca)
At the recently held Central East Ontario Championships held in Barrie, students from the Akhara have won a total of six medals which include two gold medals, three silver medals, and one bronze medal. The standings were:
Pavanvir Dulai - Gold and Bronze in 76kg (Cadet and Open division)
Karan Dhillon - Gold in 57kg (Cadet Division)
Sukhpreet Bains - Silver in 72kg (Open division)
Pawanpreet Sekhon - Silver in 72kg (Cadet Division)
Diljot Chahal - Silver in 69kg (Cadet Division)
Arshpreet Gill and Randeep Gill - 4th and 6th place respectively in 63kg (Cadet Division)
Headed by Olympian Wrestler & Head Coach Ashok Kumar, the Akhara has already set its mark on the Ontario wrestling front through a brilliant performance in a number of tournaments held in the province so far.
Ashok Kumar is a recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award, the highest sports achievement award presented by the President of India to sports professionals. He is also the winner of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at various Commonwealth and Asian games and a participant in the Olympics.
The Akhara of Champions is a newly opened amateur wrestling facility in Mississauga that coaches and trains athletes for competitive wrestling sports.
