OTTAWA, Sept. 18 /CNW Telbec/ - The TV Alliance (, a new ad hoc non partisan grass roots initiative was launched today from Ottawa. The mission is to promote a better and more transparent TV broadcasting and distribution system for Canadians.

"The time has come to listen to Canadians" said alliance advisor Ian Morrison. "It's a privilege to operate in Canada and those that benefit most have the greatest obligations to make the biggest returns for viewers."

"The downloading on Canadians has to stop," said alliance advisor Michael Janigan. "Legislators and regulators alike have to protect viewers from unfair billing practices."

"We welcome the CRTC's request to Heritage Canada for funding to facilitate consumer participation," said alliance advisor Anu Bose. "A transparent process and funding are essential for a level playing field and meaningful consumer input."

The TV Alliance is directed by a volunteer board of advisors. Priority focus is to identify and engage individuals, viewer, consumer and charity groups at the local, regional and national level across Canada. The TV Alliance will actively engage in the public consultations on the future of television in Canada.
