TORONTO, Nov. 25 /CNW/ - With the construction of 18 York Street in Toronto beginning one year ago, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) LLP is pleased to announce the building has passed ground level. In August 2008, PwC signed a long-term lease for approximately 280,000 square feet of office space at 18 York Street, becoming the lead tenant and anchoring its national headquarters and downtown Toronto office to the new state-of-the-art building.
- Designed by the award-winning firm, KPMB Architects, 18 York will
total 650,000 square feet and rise 26-storeys on the north-west
corner of York Street and Bremner Boulevard.
- Targeting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold
standard, the new building will feature state-of-the-art operating
and life safety systems including: rain water collection system,
Enwave's deep lake central cooling supplemented by a thermal storage
system, 18" raised floor, and enhanced indoor air quality.
- The emerging area directly south of Toronto's financial core and one
block from Union Station will have access to the PATH and neighbour
to Maple Leaf Square, 1.8 million square feet of living, working and
entertainment space featuring everything from cafes and sports bars
to fine dining, health, fitness and personal service amenities,
daycare facilities and grocery/retail space.
David Forster, PwC's Greater Toronto Area Managing Partner, says, "We are looking forward to moving in to our new downtown Toronto location and are pleased with the progress of 18 York Street to-date. Now above ground, the site is coming to life and drawing attention for the same reasons it appealed to us in the first place: its location and amenities, access to public transit, and leading green design features, all of which support PwC's environmental objectives."
Regular updates on the building's development are provided to PwC employees via the firm's intranet Web portal, including the latest construction images, photos, design benefits, environmental features, maps and videos. Toronto urban development enthusiasts have also taken an interest in the building on the blog site UrbanToronto.ca.
Scheduled completion for the building is fall 2011.
