Dr. Bonita Porter
, Deputy Chief Coroner for Inquests, today announced that a new coroner will preside as inquest coroner into the death of Soun Saing.
Mr. Saing
, 46, died on
April 6, 2007
, at the Hamilton General Hospital while in the custody of the Hamilton Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest will examine the events surrounding
Mr. Saing
's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last five days and will hear from approximately nine witnesses.
The inquest will begin at
9:30 a.m.
on
Monday, December 7, 2009
, at the John Sopinka Courthouse, 45 Main Street East, Hamilton.
Dr. John Carlisle
will now preside as inquest coroner and
Ms. Karen Shea
will be counsel to the coroner.
