New President of the Nisga'a Nation declared

NEW AIYANSH, BC, March 30 /CNW/ - The Nisga'a Nation has elected a new President. Mitchell Stevens, former Village Councillor from the Nisga'a Village Government of Laxgalts'ap, was officially declared elected to the office of President of Nisga'a Lisims Government earlier today.

President Stevens was sworn into office before Wilp Si'ayuukhl Nisga'a, the Legislative House of Nisga'a Lisims Government, this morning in New Aiyansh, British Columbia. Nisga'a citizens of all ages gathered in the Legislative Chambers of Nisga'a Lisims Government to observe the swearing-in ceremony. "My mandate is to govern in the interest of all Nisga'a--regardless of where they live," President Stevens declared before the Legislative House.

President Stevens encouraged members of the House to reflect on the oath of office that each member is required to swear, and to take guidance from that oath in doing the work of Nisga'a Government.

Members of the House welcomed President Stevens to his new office and committed to working together to advance the goals of the Nisga'a Nation.
