ANCASTER, ON, July 13, 2015 /CNW/ - Expanding WiN's influence to better prepare women and young people for opportunities in the nuclear industry is one of the priorities for Women in Nuclear (WiN) Canada's President, Heather Kleb. Heather was recently elected by the Board, together with a suite of new directors.
"It is an exciting time in the nuclear industry and one that is ripe with opportunities for women and young people in the Skilled Trades and STEM subjects - science, technology, engineering and mathematics," said Heather Kleb, WiN-Canada President. "I am honoured and proud to have the opportunity to serve as WiN–Canada's next president, and to follow Past-President Colleen Sidford's four successful years in the role. I also look forward to working with the new Board of Directors to continue to expand WiN's impact across Canada." The new Board of Directors will be affirmed at the next WiN-Canada General Assembly.
Prior to taking over her current role as a Senior Program Manager at Bruce Power, Heather's experience in both the nuclear and mining industries included roles such as Interim President & CEO for the Canadian Nuclear Association, as well as positions with Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (recently renamed Canadian Nuclear Laboratories).
Heather works to create a positive public, political and regulatory environment for Canada's nuclear industry and has had the opportunity to promote nuclear power within Canada and abroad. "WiN members understand the critical role that the nuclear industry plays in achieving Canada's greenhouse gas targets because of our direct involvement in the industry," Kleb added. In her new position, Heather will also represent Canada on the WiN-Global board.
Heather is looking forward to joining many of the 1,400+ WiN-Canada members at the 12th WiN-Canada Annual Conference on November 8 – 10, 2015 at Deer Creek Golf & Banquet Facility in Ajax, Ontario. The theme of the 2015 conference is: Linking the Nuclear Family: Past, Present & Future. In addition to the full day plenary session on Monday, November 9th, the WiN-Canada conference will include the option of participating in a number of networking activities and technical tours.
Women in Nuclear (WiN) Canada (www.wincanada.org) is a world-wide association of women working professionally in various fields of nuclear energy and radiation applications. With currently over 1,400 members across the country, WiN-Canada was formed in 2004 and has been working to support the objectives of WiN-Global and emphasize and support the role that women can and do have in addressing the general public's concerns about nuclear energy and the application of radiation and nuclear technology. WiN-Canada also works to provide an opportunity for women to succeed in the industry through initiatives such as mentoring, networking, and personal development opportunities. WiN also promotes career interest in nuclear engineering, science, technology, the trades and other nuclear-related professions, especially among women and young people.
