New Île des Sœurs bypass bridge: access narrowed from the Bonaventure Expressway to the Champlain Bridge

LONGUEUIL, QC, Feb. 10, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that construction work on a new viaduct, which is necessary as part of the new Île des Sœurs Bypass Bridge project, will require the access ramp from the Bonaventure Expressway to the Champlain Bridge to be reduced to one lane.

This lane reduction will begin Thursday, February 13 and last approximately four months.

Currently, road users coming from the Bonaventure Expressway heading towards the Champlain Bridge use the Clément Bridge, followed by an access ramp that runs beneath the A-15, to reach the Champlain Bridge. This ramp has two lanes converting into one at the entrance to A-15 South towards the Champlain Bridge.

This access ramp will however be reduced faster to one lane for the next four months. As a result, traffic will be heavier to access the Champlain Bridge from the Bonaventure Expressway.

Road users who wish to access Île des Sœurs may use Exit 4 of the Bonaventure Expressway in order to access the island via the A-15 South, followed by the Île des Sœurs Bridge, to avoid heavier traffic on Bonaventure Expressway.

As well, please note that, as of Tuesday, February 18, traffic on Chemin de la Pointe Nord between the traffic circle at the entrance to Île des Sœurs and Pointe Nord will be reduced to one lane heading east under the Île des Sœurs Bridge.

A yield sign will be installed for motorists coming from Exit 57-N on the A-15 South, in order to facilitate alternating traffic with residents of Île des Sœurs coming from the traffic circle.
