New Energy Savings Delivered by Smartcool for Sainsbury's Convenience Stores

VANCOUVER, Sept. 17, 2013 /CNW/ - Smartcool Systems Inc. (TSX-V: SSC) has once again expanded the scope of its work for Sainsbury's, one of the UK's largest food retailers, demonstrating consistent growth in providing energy efficiency solutions to this sector.

"In the last three months, Smartcool has pushed into the most rapidly expanding sector of the Sainsbury's estate, installing our ECO3 and ESM in 35 convenience stores," says Steven Martin, Executive VP of Smartcool and head of the Sainsbury's account.  "This is saving Sainsbury's 700,000 kWh per year- by the end of their fiscal year we expect to have doubled this by installing our energy efficiency products in an additional 35 stores."

Entry into the convenience store sector provides a new avenue for Smartcool to produce significant energy and cost savings to the food retailer.  George Burnes, President and CEO of Smartcool elaborates; "Sainsbury's is in a growth phase as they are actively pursuing new convenience store development across the UK.  With 523 convenience stores already, this planned expansion offers Smartcool a superb opportunity for parallel growth as a partner delivering proven, high performance products in the ECO3 and ESM."

In addition to this new work with the convenience stores, Smartcool is saving 20 million kWh every year across the 140 Sainsbury's supermarkets and PFS facilities that have the ECO3 and/or ESM installed.  With a total of 583 supermarkets and approximately 250 PFS sites, Sainsbury's continues to offer a significant source of new work and revenue growth for Smartcool.
