New directors appointed to Chestermere Utilities Incorporated Board of Directors
CHESTERMERE, AB, April 20, 2016 /CNW/ - City of Chestermere Council is pleased to unanimously confirm five new directors to Chestermere Utilities Incorporated's (CUI) Board of Directors.
As part of CUI's governance, for the Board of Directors to be operational, there must be no less than six directors. Prior to tonight's confirmation the Board consisted of only four directors. Additionally, CUI's governance states that all Board of Director vacancies must be filled by a resolution of Council, representing Chestermere citizens, CUI's shareholder.
At an April 18 meeting, Council unanimously confirmed all five of CUI's recommended director appointees as meeting the necessary requirements of sitting on CUI's Board of Directors. These requirements included governance experience, professional leadership expertise, and expertise in utility finance, engineering or major project management. The five new directors appointed are Mike Derbyshire, Lou Doiron, Brian Milne, Jim Oosterbaan, and Randy Soifer.
"Council asked CUI to put forward a group of directors with a specific set of experience and expertise that would support the City of Chestermere in its review of CUI's mandate and regulatory process," said Randy Patrick, CAO for the City of Chestermere. "These new directors bring extensive expertise that we can capitalize upon and which will help Council determine the best business model for CUI moving forward."
To begin this process in January 2016, Council asked CUI to begin a formal recruiting process. A fair and robust process was undertaken, with a professional recruitment firm leading the process that culminated in five candidates being put forward to Council. This process included stakeholder consultation, the development of a candidate profile, public advertising and then a final candidate assessment. CUI then put the five candidates forward to Council for confirmation.
The City of Chestermere will also look to the directors to assist in the review of CUI's mandate ensuring that the organization continues to meet the needs of Chestermere residents.
