New course entertainment and more local talent than ever at 2016 Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon

MONTREAL, July 20, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - The Rock 'n' Roll Oasis Montreal Marathon is going to rock more local talent than ever with a course entertainment program that features new types of performances and activations in 2016. In addition to local rock bands, an entertainment formula pioneered by the event series, Montreal-based a cappella singers groups, DJs and dancers will also be featured along the course on September 25, with performers on hand every two kilometres to motivate the runners.

"We wanted to enhance the event's local dimension even further and feature a broader sample of the incredible talent that Montreal has to offer," Dominique Arsenault, the Marathon's spokesperson, explains.

The free concert by Our Lady Peace will top it all off at the finish line, allowing runners to recover and celebrate their performance without missing a beat. The full 2016 band and entertainment lineup is available here.

Encouragement will also be coming from the sidelines in a more cheerful and colourful way than ever: the new Spirit on the Course contest will bring local groups of all stripes to the course to cheer runners on all day long. Groups of friends, community dance troops, school sports teams, businesses and their employees are all invited to take part in this new cheering competition and embellish the course with costumes and props.

"The race is much more than its 35,000 participants! Supporters are crucial to runners' preparation and morale and we wanted to give them more visibility and recognition on race day. We also wanted to offer a concrete opportunity for community groups to join this major Montreal event, even if they are not runners… yet!" Arsenault adds playfully.

All participating groups will receive a $200 cash donation. Prizes will be awarded to the three most spirited and original teams. Interested groups can email [email protected] to sign up.
