SCARBOROUGH, ON, May 20, 2015 /CNW/ - A new concept store to Scarborough is having its grand opening this Thursday May 21st. Plato's Closet Scarborough, at Brimley & Eglinton, has been buying gently used teen fashions and accessories since March. This Thursday they will open their doors to sell to the public. This store is new to the area in two ways:
- They pay cash on the spot for used clothing and accessories. When customers bring in clean, gently used clothes from brand names like Lululemon, Abercrombie & Fitch, American Eagle, Aritzia, Rock n' Republic, True Religion, Roxy, Juicy and others, Plato's Closet Scarborough will pay cash immediately. They are different from consignment stores that pay customers only after the items have sold.
- Unlike thrift stores, they are very selective in what they take. The condition of their clothing is practically new and the styles have been in stores in the last year and a half. The store feels like a regular retail shop, with the exception that items are priced at 70% off of retail. They stock great girls' fashions, but there are guys fashions as well, including Jordans, Adidas, Levi's, Billabong and other great brands. Some shoes are so new they are still in the box.
They haven't been selling items yet to ensure sufficient stock levels once selling begins. All of their inventory (except some accessories like sunglasses) is used, which means that the public needs to sell them their items in order to keep the shelves full. It's a recycling trend that is not only great for the environment, but great for seller's pocketbooks, and buyer's closets. Since Plato was one of the original supporters of recycling, it only makes sense that his closet would be the place to go to for great used fashions.
They are closed on Wednesday May 20th to prepare for the big day. When doors open at 10:00am, expect a line up, as some shoppers are planning to camp overnight to get first dibs on the cool goods.
