New Brian Cox Picture THE CARER Opens in Toronto and Guelph November 18

TORONTO, Nov. 14, 2016 /CNW/ - Corinth Films presents the new feature film THE CARER November 18 at the Carlton Cinema in Toronto and The Bookshelf Cinema in Guelph, then November 25 at the Bytowne in Ottawa and the Princess Cinemas in Kitchener for an exclusive theatrical engagement.

Diagnosed with a rare form of Parkinson's Disease, ailing theatrical legend Sir Michael Gifford (Brian Cox) is terminally ill but determined not to go quietly into the good night. Highly resistant to the concept of allowing a full time care giver to look after him, Sir Michael reluctantly allows Dorottya (Coco Kӧnig) into his home at the behest of his daughter Sophia (Emilia Fox). Discord unfolds as Dorottya's true intentions in taking the job are revealed, but not before instilling Sir Michael with a renewed vigor for life.

The film's Director Janos Edelenyi said: "This film is a vivid mix of comedy and tragedy… the 'double vision' that derives from my own experience of being downgraded (or maybe promoted?) from a successful Hungarian film director to a van driver in Vienna - courtesy of the wise leaders of the Hungarian People's Republic."

The original writer of the film, Gilbert Adair (The Dreamers, Love and Death on Long Island) was still working on the script of THE CARER when he died. His work was continued by his long-time friend and collaborator, Tom Kinninmont.

Coco Kӧnig brings vivacity to her role as Dorottya and said of her role: "Dorottya is not that different from me. Her lively and humorous attitude to life gives Michael the strength and confidence he needs to convince himself to join the ceremony at the end of the film!"

Brian Cox who plays Sir Michael Gifford had this to say of his character: "… his persona is so bombastic and so full of himself while at the same time revealing deep and tragic elements of his character."

The Carer is a co-production from England and Hungary.
