MISSISSAUGA, ON, April 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Researchers at BASF Canada Inc. have released new data that quantify some of the unique benefits of BASF's popular HEADLINE® fungicide for canola.
The annual BASF AgSolutions® Performance Trials collected data from 2012 and 2013 to measure some of the key plant health benefits, or AgCelence®, the pyraclostrobin active ingredient in HEADLINE provides.
"We've known about the AgCelence benefits of HEADLINE in canola since the product launched in 2010, but now we have an outstanding data set to prove that AgCelence is building canola yield potential," said Russell Trischuk, Technical Marketing Specialist at BASF Canada and lead researcher for the trials.
Unique to pyraclostrobin-based fungicides, the AgCelence benefits have been shown to deliver greener leaves, stronger stems, better management of periods of minor stress, leading to higher yield potential. However, this new data measure how it contributes in canola through various positive physiological responses, including:
- 12 percent taller plants in 90 percent of samples;
- 20 percent more pods in 93 percent of samples;
- 8 percent fewer aborted pods in 72 percent of samples;
- 8 percent more leaves in 86 percent of samples;
- 15 percent thicker stems in 80 percent of samples; and
- 10 percent longer roots in 85 percent of samples.
While every trial did not show increases in all of the metrics captured, 100 percent of the trials did show a physiological improvement in at least two of the factors measured above, highlighting the consistency of the product.
"These data are proof that the AgCelence benefits of HEADLINE deliver healthier plants and increased yield potential in canola," said Trischuk.
The BASF AgSolutions Performance Trials were conducted across western Canada in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba from 2012 to 2013. The purpose of the trials was to give growers the opportunity to test products on limited acres.
