VANCOUVER, Feb. 7, 2019 /CNW/ - Network Media Group Inc. (TSX: NTE.V) (OTCMKTS: NMGGF) and Network Entertainment Inc. ("Network" or "the Company") are pleased to announce that its feature documentary I Am Heath Ledger is the recipient of the 2018 Realscreen Award for Best Programming in the Non-Fiction History & Biography category. In addition, Network's film was bestowed the coveted Overall Excellence Award for Non-Fiction.
I Am Heath Ledger celebrated its World Premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017, followed by its global television premiere in May of the same year on Paramount Network. The film is one in a series of I Am feature documentaries from Network Entertainment in partnership with Paramount Network on global icons. The I Am franchise is distributed internationally by FremantleMedia and in Canada with Thunderbird Entertainment.
The film celebrates the life of Heath Ledger: actor, artist and icon. The documentary features interviews with family and friends closest to him and provides an intimate look at Heath Ledger through the lens of his own camera as he films and often performs in his own personal journey - extravagant in gesture and in action. Heath's artistic nature and unique vision set him apart from the Hollywood mainstream, vaulted him to stardom and endeared him to the world.
Network CEO and Executive Producer of the I Am series, Derik Murray, said "Receiving the Reelscreen awards is a great honor and very much a collaborative achievement. Our world-class team takes great pride in creating legacy films that our iconic family and estate partners are proud to be a part of. To be acknowledged by our esteemed peers and to receive these two prestigious awards from Realscreen for I Am Heath Ledger is truly gratifying. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of the Ledger family who trusted us to produce a poignant and authentic portrait. - for that we are deeply grateful."
I Am Heath Ledger was directed by Adrian Buitenhuis and Derik Murray. Executive producers at Network Entertainment include Derik Murray, Paul Gertz and Kent Wingerak, and for Paramount Network, executive producers are Jon Slusser and Jaimee Kosanke.
Network Entertainment was previously honored in June 2017 with the Realscreen Award for Non-Fiction: History & Biographical Series for its documentary series Facing, produced for the National Geographic Channel.
The Realscreen Awards, which recognize the best in unscripted and non-fiction programming from around the world, were presented during a ceremony held in New Orleans on January 29, 2019.
