OTTAWA, July 17, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Eight high-performance, sustainably-designed buildings [seven commercial/institutional and one residential], all awarded in the 2014 Canadian Green Building Awards, point to a future in which the buildings where we live and work will be far superior to what we know today.
The awarded projects cover a range of building types, for example: a small modernized 100 year-old house in Ottawa, a testing lab in Hamilton, a retail store in North Vancouver, a library in Montreal, an attic renovation in a heritage building at the University of Toronto, and a bio-energy plant in Prince George, BC.
"The skill and creativity demonstrated in the winning projects bode well for a future in which buildings are beautiful, better to live and work in, and use far fewer resources," says Awards program manager Don Griffith.
Launched in 2008, and offered annually by the Canada Green Building Council [CaGBC] and Sustainable Architecture & Building [SABMag], the Awards recognize excellence in sustainable, high-performance building design, architectural merit, and technical innovation in order to advance knowledge and improve practice for the design of non-residential and residential buildings. 2014 sponsors are among the top organizations and companies in the field of sustainable building: Autodesk Canada, Interface, the Canadian Precast Prestressed Concrete Institute and Uponor.
