VANCOUVER, BC and RED DEER, AB, May 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Education empowers everyone, but for girls growing up in extreme poverty, education can literally change their lives. That's why Canadian hair care brands AG Hair and Chatters Canada Limited have teamed up to build schools in Northern Uganda.
"The key to ultimately ending poverty and injustice for women in Africa is through education, and particularly education for girls," says Lotte Davis, CEO and Co-Founder of AG Hair. Through proceeds from every bottle sold, AG has built 5 schools for girls in Africa since 2008 and has raised over 1 million dollars under its philanthropic umbrella, Women Leading Change. In 2013, Chatters Salons have raised over $110,000 chain wide to build the Patongo School. This year, funds raised will assist with continued development of both the Patongo and Atanga Girls' Schools in Northern Uganda.
When Chatters Canada, AG's largest Canadian customer, heard about this project, the salon chain was eager to get involved. "For over 25 years, Chatters has been giving back to communities," says Jason Volk, CEO of Chatters Canada Limited. "We believe in shared success and recognizing important opportunities to help make a difference." On May 25, 2014, Chatters Salons will host a nationwide cut-a-thon where the cost of all haircuts will be donated to Women Leading Change with a goal to raise $100,000. Chatters is asking for a minimum $20 donation for a women's cut and $10 for a men's or kids haircut to support this cause. Appointments available, walk-ins welcome. Money raised from the AG Hair and Chatters Canada 2014 partnership will build and furnish two classroom buildings and construct eight staff houses at Patongo, just a few of the changes planned for the school.
Inspired by the world of fashion, hair and culture, AG creates a new standard of beauty. Since 1989 AG products have been hand crafted in Vancouver, Canada ensuring only the highest quality ingredients go into them. A portion of every bottle sold goes to AG's Women Leading Change Foundation to build schools for girls in Africa.
