NAID-Canada Conference to feature Emmy-award winner Peter Klein
TORONTO, Sept. 29 /CNW/ - The National Association for Information Destruction - Canada (NAID-Canada) is pleased to extend congratulations to Dr. Peter Klein of the University of British Columbia, who along with a group of his students won an Emmy Award on Monday night for a documentary on electronic waste exports.
Ghana: Digital Dumping Ground, aired on PBS's Frontline in June 2009 and won the Emmy for Outstanding Investigative Journalism in a News Magazine. Dr. Klein is scheduled to speak at the annual NAID-Canada Conference on October 29.
"Dr. Klein's documentary should be required viewing for government decision-makers and privacy professionals across Canada. It sheds light on the importance of safe destruction of electronic equipment and the information stored on such devices. We are very lucky to have Dr. Klein scheduled to speak at our annual conference," stated Joseph Bozic, Chair of NAID-Canada.
Dr. Klein's presentation to the NAID-Canada Conference, titled What You Don't Know about Your Computer's Next Life but Should!, will pick up on this theme and share details on how obsolete computers move beyond Canada's borders to third world nations where the health and safety of the local population is put at risk, and where savvy smugglers exploit the personal data that remains on the equipment.
"Organizations need to know what can happen to their old electronics if they are not safely destroyed or recycled. Anyone responsible for data protection and privacy within their organization should listen to Dr. Klein," added Robert Johnson, Executive Director of NAID-Canada.
The NAID-Canada Conference takes place on October 29 at the Toronto Board of Trade. This year's theme is Your Data or Your Life? Sessions will explore leading-edge topics around information security and data protection, highlighted by Dr. Klein's keynote address.
