Hospital foundations across the country thank Canadians for their support to date
TORONTO, May 21, 2020 /CNW/ - Organizers of The Frontline Fund, a national coalition of more than 160 hospital foundations across Canada, are pleased to announce more than $11 million has been raised to date in the month since its launch. The Fund has already made three weekly disbursements to the participating hospitals across the country to support frontline healthcare workers continuing to battle COVID-19. The fight is far from over and as unanticipated costs continue to rise during this public health emergency, Canadian individuals and companies are invited to donate at FrontlineFund.ca.
"We're so proud to see the way Canadian individuals and corporations have stepped up to help our frontline healthcare workers - we're already seeing the difference these donations are making in hospitals right across the country," said Caroline Riseboro, President and CEO, Trillium Health Partners Foundation and member of The Frontline Fund Steering Committee. "That said, COVID-19 remains a threat and those who continue to fight bravely against this deadly virus need our ongoing support. Even as certain restrictions begin to be lifted, healthcare workers are still fighting every day and this war is far from over."
The Frontline Fund launched on April 21 to support frontline healthcare workers by raising funds to help fight COVID-19 through three key pillars: supplies, supports and research. To date, The Frontline Fund has deployed funds to all participating hospitals which are being put to use in a variety of ways based on pressing needs at each health care facility, such as:
- Purchasing meals and meal gift cards, as well as coffee and tea for frontline healthcare workers
- Arranging temporary accommodations for frontline healthcare workers to avoid potentially taking the virus home to their families
- Purchasing supplies such as scrubs and caps
- Piloting non-standard virtual care to reach those who cannot go to a physical hospital
- Purchasing tablets for patients to connect with friends and families while 'no visitor' policies remain in place
- Clinical research to improve outcomes for COVID-19 patients.
The Frontline Fund is grateful to all major corporate donors to date, including: Canada Life, Canadian Tire Corporation, CMA Foundation, CP, Maple Leaf Foods, Kruger Products, TD Bank Financial Group and Rogers. Their support has helped ignite awareness of the urgent need across Canada.
"As we see progress being made in the fight against COVID-19, it's important not to lose sight of the important work still to be done," Riseboro said. "As we all continue to do our part to flatten the curve, we can't forget about our frontline healthcare workers who continue to show up for us every day. The Frontline Fund provides an easy way for Canadians and Canadian companies to give what they can in support of those workers."
