'Modern pop with a 50s vibe' is the flavor for 'Candy' album from Canadian singer/songwriter Brittney Grabill

LOS ANGELES, March 11, 2014 /CNW/ - Canadian pop singer/songwriter Brittney Grabill is announcing her stylized 1950s inspired sophomore album - "Candy" - will release this summer. The record follows her debut EP, "Dreams Are All You Know," which released last January. An official release date for "Candy" is forthcoming, but the record will launch in June and be available on iTunes.

"It's modern pop with a 50s vibe," Grabill said. "Definitely a lot of great harmonies. In the new album, there's lot of horn solos, trumpets, and trombones. The drum rhythms and piano are very much influenced by how pop music was in the 50s."

With a vibrant vocal style reminiscent of American singer Jewel, Grabill wrote all of the lyrics for "Candy" including some revealing and emotionally penetrating verses.

"People will really get into who I am," she said. "Writing music is very therapeutic for me. I write a lot about having fun, self-expression when it comes to learning new things and going through hardships. But the album's themes are fun, playful and girly."

"Candy" was funded in part by Rawlco Radio (102.3 Now Radio in Edmonton), which choses 20 independent artists to finance $10,000 towards their creation of new original music.

Producer and session musician Scott Greene worked with Grabill on "Candy."

"It's been a wonderful experience over the years being able to watch Brittney grow as an artist," he said. "Even at a young age, I could clearly see her potential. I've watched her take control of her career and approach it with care and a very regimented determination."

Canadian actor and country musician Wes Mack, who plays Icicle on the CW's "Smallville" and Austin Mars on CBC's "Heartland," appears on "Candy" as a featured artist on the track, "Goodnight."

Music videos for the album's singles - "Candy" and "I've Moved On" - are in the works.

Mike Wells, a renowned audio mastering engineer, is mastering the record in Los Angeles.

Grabill released "I Like You," her first commercial single, when she was just 16 years old. Braden Croft ("Hemorrhage") directed the music video. Since 2010, she's performed at dozens of festivals, events, venues and shows throughout Canada, and crafted a reputation for extraordinary music.
