Disney Consumer Products partners with Mercedes-Benz Start Up for a "Minnie Inspired" Design Competition
TORONTO, Oct. 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Disney's leading lady and global fashion icon, Minnie Mouse, was spotted at World MasterCard® Fashion Week in Toronto. Through a new partnership with Disney Consumer Products, Mercedes-Benz Start Up Competition finalists were tasked with the creation of one look inspired by Minnie Mouse. Sid Neigum was crowned the winner this evening at a private reception hosted by Samantha and Caillianne Beckerman alongside none other than Minnie Mouse. The winner earned a prize of $2,500 to put towards their own collection.
"We are thrilled to be involved in World MasterCard® Fashion Week this year supporting up and coming design talent here in Canada," said Janice Lau-Pearson, senior manager, franchise, Disney Consumer Products Canada. "We always say there is 'a little Minnie in all of us,' so we love seeing the designers interpret their own version of Minnie style."
A new element to the program, the six finalists were asked to design one look inspired by the iconic character. Each designer was instructed to design one head-to-toe look for spring/summer 2015 based on the essence of Minnie. The six looks will be displayed in the fashion environment as part of a Minnie themed installation for the duration of fashion week.
As one of Disney's most adored characters, Minnie Mouse is truly making her mark on the international fashion map. Minnie's look is timeless and elegant, yet fun. She is known for her classic silhouette, signature bow, polka dots and primary colour palette of black, white and red. Through her positive nature and strong sense of self, she inspires women around the globe to find their own sense of personal style, while staying true to themselves.
On Monday, Minnie was welcomed to the city of Toronto by local style stars, Samantha and Caillianne Beckerman. The fashionable pair hosted Minnie on a tour of Toronto, hitting Toronto hot spots throughout the day, sharing their selfies, street style snaps and fashion sightings through their social media channels. The pair also participated on the Mercedes-Benz Start Up judging panel and acted as co-hosts for the evening reception.
"We are beyond thrilled to have the Beckerman sisters as our fashion ambassadors here in Toronto," said Lau-Pearson. "First of all – not only do they love fashion, but they truly adore Minnie Mouse. More importantly though, Samantha and Caillianne exude such confidence with their own personal style – they inspire others and lead by example, just like our dear Minnie – and that to us is the most fashionable thing of all."
Minnie fans were able to follow the fun by following the hashtag #MinnieSpotted. Guests in attendance were also encouraged to share their own versions of #MinnieStyle, posting photos of themselves donning their very own set of Minnie ears.
