VANCOUVER, Feb. 16, 2019 /CNW/ - Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, the Honourable Jonathan Wilkinson, was in Vancouver today to help send-off a team of 21 international scientists from Canada, Korea, Japan, Russia, and the United States who are departing on a 5-week expedition in the Gulf of Alaska aboard a Russian research trawler. This mission is part of the International Year of the Salmon (IYS).
The research from this expedition is expected to provide insight to better predict how the changing ocean environment affects salmon stock and look at the factors that ensure or compromise the salmon's survivability during their first winter at sea.
