Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada announces a judicial appointment in the province of Quebec
FrançaisOTTAWA, ON, Oct. 1, 2026 /CNW/ -- The Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, today announced the following appointment under the judicial application process established in 2016. This process emphasizes transparency, merit, and the diversity of the Canadian population, and will continue to ensure the appointment of jurists who meet the highest standards of excellence and integrity.
The Honourable Alexandre Dalmau, a Judge of the Court of Québec in Montréal, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Québec for the district of Montréal. Justice Dalmau replaces Justice A. Boctor (Montréal), who was elevated to the Court of Appeal of Quebec effective September 14, 2026.

Biography
Justice Alexandre Dalmau holds a Bachelor of Laws from Université du Québec à Montréal and was called to the Barreau du Québec in 1996.
After a brief stint in private practice, Justice Dalmau began his career as a prosecutor with Substituts du procureur general (now known as Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecution) in Montreal in 1997. In 2000, he joined the Public Prosecution Service of Canada (PPSC), where he worked primarily on cases involving organized crime and international drug trafficking. In 2012, he returned to the Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions' (DCPP) Montréal office, where he was a member of the criminal trial team, handling primarily homicide cases. In 2015, the Government of Quebec appointed him Deputy Director of Criminal and Penal Prosecutions. In this role, he worked alongside the Director to oversee prosecution operations throughout the province of Quebec. In 2017, he was appointed as a judge of the Court of Québec, Criminal and Penal Division, in Montréal.
For several years, Justice Dalmau was an adjunct professor at University of Montréal, where he taught trial advocacy techniques (Sopinka Cup). He also taught at the prosecutor training schools of the DCPP and the PPSC.
Justice Dalmau and his wife are the happy and proud parents of two thriving young adults. In their free time, they enjoy travelling, hiking, and going to the movies and the theatre, among other activities.
