OTTAWA, Sept. 15, 2017 /CNW/ - Through meaningful engagement with our partners around the world, Canada can help address the many challenges women face globally and at home. The Honourable Maryam Monsef, Minister of Status of Women, met and discussed a wide range of gender issues with Ms. Maria Elena Boschi, Undersecretary of State to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy, in Toronto, on September 14, 2017.

During these discussions, they shared ideas and best practices for addressing the challenges women and girls face in both countries. This includes ending gender-based violence, increasing leadership opportunities for women and the gender wage gap. They also discussed how to advance gender equality through the G7.

"Maria Elena Boschi's leadership to advance gender equality and end gender based violence is inspiring. I appreciated the opportunity to hear her story and to learn more about Italy's efforts to improve outcomes for women and girls. Canada is thankful to Italy for their leadership, particularly as they hold the G7 presidency in 2017. We will build on this work in 2018 as we take over and host the G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec. Our collective and innovative efforts to create more choice and opportunities for women and girls will improve our economies and societies for everyone."
