By upgrading its facilities, C2MI will play a role in building the expertise and bolstering the performance of SMEs that manufacture photonic sensors and components.

The Montérégie region counts several dynamic businesses and organizations with innovative ideas helping to create a strong local economic fabric. During the COVID-19 pandemic, some organizations succeeded in adapting and are prospering, while others have had to reduce their operations. Today, as we put in place our plan for a robust economic recovery, they need our support now more than ever. The Government of Canada has committed to assisting them as they pursue their activities and to fostering their growth and success; this is precisely what it intends to do in the months to come.
With this in mind, the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages and Minister responsible for CED, accompanied by Lyne Bessette, Member of Parliament for Brome–Missisquoi, today announced $5 million in financial support for the MiQro Innovation Collaborative Center (C2MI).
C2MI is the largest microelectronics R&D and commercialization centre in Canada and is an international innovation hub. This non-refundable contribution will allow it to put in place state‑of‑the‑art equipment to be used to manufacture microsystems, to integrate opto-electronic components and to screen print circuit boards in order to accelerate the development of new products and procedures. In addition to building new capacity, the Centre will be able to upgrade and optimize some of its existing industrial capabilities to maintain cutting-edge technology and train highly qualified personnel.
This project will lead to the creation of two specialized positions for C2MI as well as several dozen other positions in Quebec and Canadian SMEs that will be able to use this innovative new technology.
