From March 2 to March 8, 2015, International Women's Week Highlights Economic Opportunities for Women
TORONTO, March 6, 2015 /CNW/ - The Honourable Dr. K. Kellie Leitch, Minister of Labour and Minister of Status of Women, today took the opportunity to promote International Women's Day at the 2015 Mompreneurs Conference in Toronto. From March 2 to March 8, Canada highlights the need to improve economic opportunities for women.
Canadians are invited to join the Government of Canada in observing International Women's Week and International Women's Day by organizing, promoting and participating in commemorative events across the country. The 2015 theme is Strong Women, Strong World: Improving Economic Opportunities for All.
This theme points to the vital contributions that women make to both the domestic and global economies. It also highlights the need to ensure that every woman has the opportunity to help create prosperity, whether as an employee, a professional, a business leader or an entrepreneur.
- Since 2007, the Government of Canada has invested over $153 million through Status of Women Canada in more than 750 community-based projects across Canada.
- Since 2007, the Government of Canada has delivered more than $60 million through Status of Women Canada's Women's Program to projects that promote women's economic security and prosperity.
- The Government of Canada has established an Expert Panel on Championing and Mentorship for Women Entrepreneurs. The panel has been consulting with Canadian business leaders and will advise Minister Leitch on innovative approaches and best practices for mentoring and championing women-led businesses.
"When women succeed, Canada succeeds. I'm sure we all agree that Canada is far better off when the talents and skills of women are fully represented throughout our economy – from corporate boardrooms and small businesses to technical professions and skilled trades."
