TORONTO, Jan. 13 /CNW/ - Merchants of Enterprise is a ground breaking new book on the private equity industry, written by a trail blazing woman in the financial field, Miriam Varadi.
Kevin O'Leary, Co-Host of CBC's hit show Dragon's Den has this to say in his advance praise: "The definite Canadian resource on everything private equity did, does and will do. A must read before you invest dollar one in any private equity deal."
Drawing on more than 25 years experience as a professional investment advisor including 13 years, as a senior vice president at Bank of Montreal, Ms. Varadi provides a Canadian perspective on this growing global industry. With her behind the scenes access to many of the biggest deal-makers in the field, Ms. Varadi is able to provide first hand insights into private equity. The list of contributors to the book (acknowledged at the end) who reveal the inner workings of private equity, reads like a 'who's who' of industry leaders.
Merchants of Enterprise deals with the vital issues raised by private equity such as, why did it often outperform public markets? How does private equity compare to public markets? Did it contribute to the meltdown? This easy-to-understand book will be of interest to entrepreneurs, business owners, CEOs, pension fund trustees, investors and their advisors, and anyone else concerned with the health of our financial system.

"Having become the first author to chronicle the history and progression of Canadian private equity, Varadi has immediately vaulted herself to become the authority on the subject. Her natural story telling ability combines elegantly with the expertise of a sophisticated investment executive. The result is a highly informative and enjoyable treatise on Canadian private equity that reads like a cross between a Josh Lerner textbook and a Peter C. Newman page turner. Bravo Miriam!"
