Human-centred mobility solutions inspire Mercedes-Benz Canada in Montreal
TORONTO, Jan. 16, 2018 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada's presence at the Montreal International Auto Show (MIAS) will be characterized by innovative, human-centred technologies that set the standard for safety, comfort and performance. Fresh from its fourth consecutive record-breaking year, the company is setting its sights even higher, showcasing electric mobility, app-based technologies that connect consumers with their vehicles, the powerfully versatile GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV, and a range of other forward-looking products and services.
A glimpse of the new EQ lineup: GLC 350e 4MATIC SUV
EQ is the Mercedes-Benz electric mobility brand and encompasses all key aspects of customer-focussed electric mobility. The name EQ stands for "Electric Intelligence" and is derived from the Mercedes‑Benz brand values of "Emotion" and "Intelligence". The brand encompasses a comprehensive electric mobility ecosystem of products, services, technologies and innovations. Future EQ models will embody the essentials of state-of-the-art electric mobility: the fusion of compelling aesthetics and intelligent design, exceptional driving pleasure, everyday practicality and maximum safety – a brand hallmark.
At MIAS, the GLC 350e 4MATIC SUV will offer a glimpse of what's to come with the brand's new EQ lineup. For the first time, Mercedes-Benz will be offering a mid-size SUV with plug-in hybrid technology. Its drive system combines agile driving pleasure with very low fuel consumption and local emission-free driving, delivering power, refinement and exceptional efficiency. By 2022, Mercedes-Benz will offer at least one electrified alternative in all segments, from the most compact cars to the largest SUVs. The current EQ portfolio includes plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are already in market (categorized as EQ Power). The first fully-electric EQ vehicle will arrive in Canada at the end of 2019.

Shaping the future of mobility: Mercedes me connect
In the fall of this year, Mercedes-Benz will launch Mercedes me connect services on all new 2019 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars*. These innovative, app-based mobility services have been designed to enhance the ownership experience and allow drivers to stay in touch with their vehicle from anywhere, obtain assistance at the touch of a button, and power an evolving platform that will help shape the future of mobility. Features will include:
- Remote Start and Door Lock/Unlock: Start the vehicle remotely, or lock and unlock the doors, from anywhere in the world using the Mercedes me connect App.
- Remote Retrieval of Vehicle Status: Tire pressure, mileage, fuel levels, etc., may be checked from any location with data connection via the Mercedes me portal or mobile app.
- Parked Vehicle Locator: Locates the parked vehicle within a 1.5 km radius.
- Send2Benz: Points of interest can be sent to the vehicle's navigation system via the Mercedes me app.
MIAS attendees will have the opportunity to explore Mercedes me connect in a designated space at the Mercedes-Benz booth. The space will feature video content and an interactive demonstration, including a live feed of a C-Class Sedan on a soundstage in the United Kingdom. Using a smartphone that has been connected to the vehicle, attendees will be able to test some of the app's features remotely, viewing the resulting actions on a livestream video wall. To underscore the opportunities for personalization that Mercedes me offers, attendees will have the opportunity to create a custom takeaway item as they move through the exhibit.

Heightened performance: Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupe
In terms of performance, the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S 4MATIC+ SUV and Coupe are sure to exceed all expectations at MIAS. The vehicles feature the largest engine ever placed in a mid-size SUV: a 4.0L V8 biturbo that has been crafted according to the AMG "one man - one engine" philosophy. With such unprecedented power, world-class handling is a must, and these GLCs deliver. AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive allows the driver to accelerate out of corners earlier and more aggressively, and ensures high handling stability and a high level of safety under all driving conditions.
Five AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programs – "Comfort", "Sport", "Sport+", "RACE" and "Individual" – allow the driver to extensively influence the characteristics of the GLC 63 S 4MATIC+. The AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT 9-speed transmission, which made its debut in the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+, benefits the driver with extremely short shift/response times.
In their exterior design, the SUV and the Coupe demonstrate the power within over the full length of the vehicle: the AMG GT-inspired Panamericana grille makes its SUV debut at the front, while a spoiler lip and chrome-plated tailpipes accentuate the rear. And, even when it is out of view, the AMG Performance exhaust system issues a roar that only a Mercedes-AMG vehicle can deliver.
In terms of driving dynamics, the leadership ambition of the new mid-size Performance SUVs is clear thanks to AMG-specific controls that are all flanked by sporty yet elegant man-made leather and DINAMICA microfibre inside the cabin. The driver and front passenger are accommodated on sports seats, which combine high lateral support and functional ergonomics with a focus on driving.
Other MIAS highlights
The flagship Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan will be making an appearance at the show. A technological trailblazer, the Sedan combines cutting-edge driving assistance systems with craftsmanship, quality materials, and tasteful appointments to deliver the ultimate in automotive luxury. Optional ENERGIZING Comfort Control is just one example of how the vehicle facilitates an optimal driving experience, intelligently linking in-vehicle systems into six programs that enhance alertness and wellbeing. These include "Well-being" (for comfort), "Joy" (for soothing), "Warmth" (for relaxation), "Vitality" (for energy), "Refresh" (for revitalization), and "Training" (three variations: muscle relaxation, muscle activation and balance).
Mercedes-Benz Vans will also be showing attendees that the skies are truly the limit with two custom vans: a Metris Limo and a Sprinter Camper. In the former, a Metris Passenger van has been upfitted by Absolute Styling Limousine to serve as luxury transportation for even the most prestigious clients. In terms of the latter, Overland Explorer has upfitted a Sprinter 4x4 Cargo to act as the perfect vehicle for the ultimate adventurer. The Sprinter is ready to explore life off the beaten path, with an interior that includes a bed, cabinetry and ample living space for the most rugged explorer.
