Meet the Show Me ShakeOut Winners

VICTORIA, May 27, 2016 /CNW/ - Meet the creative minds behind two of the winning entries from this year's Show Me Shake Out poster and video contest sponsored by ShakeOutBC and the Insurance Bureau of Canada. Prize presentations will be made during the Shake Zone earthquake simulator stop at Woodgrove Centre tomorrow.

The winners receiving prizes are:
Posters (Grades K-3)

  • First Place (iPad): Athena Winters, grade 3, Learn@Home, Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District: (This poster has images mounted on springs to simulate an earthquake.)
  • Second Place (ShakeOutBC Gift Bag): Mattias Stahuliak, grade 2, McGirr Elementary, Nanaimo:

More than 200 students from across the province submitted contest entries showing the importance of earthquake preparedness and "Drop, Cover, Hold On." This year's province-wide ShakeOutBC drill is scheduled for 10:20 a.m. October 20. The annual drill aims to raise awareness about BC's earthquake risk and the importance of "Drop, Cover and Hold On."
