MONTRÉAL, Sept. 13, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and evenko are pleased to announce that former New York City Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani (1993-2001) will share his thoughts with the metropolitan business community on the occasion of a business luncheon. This event, made possible thanks to the support of Bell, will take place at noon on Friday, October 25, at the Sheraton Montréal Hotel, as part of the Board of Trade's "Bell International Leaders" series. Mr. Giuliani will speak about leadership and the challenges facing the world's major cities, and will then answer questions from the Honourable Michael M. Fortier, Vice-Chairman of the Board of RBC Capital Markets.
"We are honoured to welcome Rudolph Giuliani, a mayor who has sustainably transformed his city through stringent management of its public finances and the implementation of a business environment that set the stage for a remarkable economic revival, in Montréal. His ability to unite and respond effectively while New York City was faced with the most severe crisis in its history made him an exceptional leader in the eyes of the rest of the world," says Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.
"We are proud to continue our association with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal, which enables our metropolitan business community to benefit from the experience and expertise of the most renowned personalities of the political and business scenes such as Rudolph Giuliani, who remains a vibrant source of inspiration for all of the world's major cities," adds evenko Executive Vice-President and General Manager Jacques Aubé.
The two terms Rudolph Giuliani served as Mayor of NYC marked a major transition. Previously considered as the U.S. capital of crime, New York became the safest major city in the country, according to the FBI, under his leadership. On the economic front, Giuliani succeeded in turning the USD $2.3 billion municipal deficit he had inherited at the onset of his first term into a surplus. He was also instrumental in creating 450,000 new jobs in the private sector, which significantly decreased the number of social welfare recipients.
Mayor Giuliani was also acknowledged as a great leader in the very early wake of the 9/11 events, and as a result of his efforts to help get the city back on its feet after this terrible tragedy.
"Mayor Giuliani's exemplary work in New York proves that it is possible to uproot at their very core complex issues that hinder a major city's development. On the eve of the November 3 municipal elections, his experience and insights are assuredly bound to inspire the aspiring next mayors of Montréal and the other cities of the metropolitan area," ends Leblanc.
This Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal event, held with the support of Bell and in partnership with evenko, is presented by RBC, and with the collaboration of La Presse, The Gazette, CJAD 800, Loto-Québec and Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP. Prior to Rudolph Giuliani, esteemed guests of the Board of Trade's "International Leaders" conferences have included Nicolas Sarkozy, Mikhail Gorbachev, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bill Clinton, Tony Blair, George W. Bush, Alan Greenspan and Sir Richard Branson.
