ST. JOHN'S, NL, Sept. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - Mr. Dan Crummell, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills (Apprenticeship and Labour Market), NL, will address the delegates at 8:10 a.m.
Researchers will then present their latest findings in fetal alcohol research and FASD intervention. FASD stands for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder and is the leading cause of developmental disability in North America.
Canadians on the cutting edge of fetal alcohol research will report new findings on:
- a highly sensitive biomarker for multi-organ injury in fetuses exposed to moderate doses of alcohol;
- a 9-year study on the prevalence of drug use during pregnancy;
- how information about supports and services for individuals with FASD is communicated, what is working and what is not working;
- effective treatment for young offenders with FASD.
Winners of a new round of research funding will be announced by the Canadian Foundation on Fetal Alcohol Research (CFFAR).
