MONTREAL , Oct. 21 /CNW Telbec/ - Considering that the Mercier Bridge repairs contract was awarded without competitive public bidding and without the usual collateral bonding required by the government to the Mohawk Bridge Consortium, which does not possess a Régie du bâtiment du Québec license; Considering also that this employer hires unqualified employees to perform structural steel work and that work methods used on the job site contaminate the environment with lead residue; Also after repeated requests to the CCQ in 2008 and 2009 to intervene, Local 711 representing over 90% of Ironworkers in Québec and the Conseil provincial du Québec des métiers de la Construction (International), to which it is affiliated convene the media to the unveiling of their action plan to enforce laws and regulations on this job site.
