Media Alert - 16th annual Bay Street Hoops charity basketball tournament to
kick off with two community events

TORONTO, March 17 /CNW/ - Hoping to raise $200,000 in support of Bloorview Kids Rehab, Ephraim's Place Community Centre, and Bay Street Hoops Youth Basketball, Bay Street Hoops kicks off this year's tournament with two community events. The tournament, presented by KPMG, is one of Toronto's largest charity sports events.

On Thursday, March 18, representatives from the charities and organizing committee will be at Toronto Stock Exchange to open the market. On Friday, March 19, it will be the official tip-off to the 2010 Bay Street Hoops tournament as well as the finals of the Bay Street Hoops Basketball League at the Air Canada Centre. At the tip-off, a tournament player will shoot for $10,000, sponsored by Cisco.

    Event details:

                 1) Opening of the Toronto Stock Exchange
                 When:  Thursday, March 18, 9:00-9:30 a.m.
                 Where: The Exchange Tower, 130 King Street West (NE Corner
                        of King St. and York St.)

                 2) 2010 Bay Street Hoops tip-off with one tournament
                 participant shooting for $10,000 (sponsored by Cisco)
                 When:  Friday, March 19, 1:30-1:45 p.m.
                 Where: Air Canada Centre, 40 Bay St. (enter at Gate 1)

                 There will also be two championship games of the Bay Street
                 Hoops Basketball League:

                  - 12:30-1:30 p.m.: Recreational Division - State Street vs.
                                     Ernst & Young
                  - 1:45-3:00 p.m.:  Competitive Division - Blakes vs. St.
                                     Andrews Club

                 The tip-off event is an excellent opportunity to meet and
                 talk to kids from Bloorview Kids Rehab, children and youth
                 from community basketball leagues as well as representatives
                 from Toronto's leading law and accounting firms, financial
                 services companies and other corporations who want to make a
                 difference in the lives of children and youth.

Since 1995, Bay Street Hoops has raised close to $1.8 million for children and youth charities in the Toronto area, including almost $180,000 in 2009. From March 25-27, close to 600 men and women from the city's corporate world will compete at the University of Toronto Athletic Centre. On Saturday, March 27, there will also be a children's basketball clinic at 1:30 p.m., and a post-game party at the Steam Whistle Brewery starting at 6 p.m.
