PRINCE RUPERT, BC, Oct. 22, 2015 /CNW/ - A major solidarity rally to bring together hereditary chiefs, prominent leaders and community members from the entire Skeena corridor has been postponed because of other cultural gatherings happening in the region at the same time.
"We are committed to hosting this event at a later date and to ensuring our members get the opportunity to attend a solidarity rally," says Mayor Garry Reece. "We want to be inclusive and ensure full participation. Our members were very excited about this historic event and we understand its importance, so we will host it at a later date that will allow for greater participation."
Hereditary chiefs from all the nations along the corridor, including the Gitanyow, Gitxsan, Wet'suwet'en, were expected to attend the event on Saturday, October 24 at the North Coast Meeting & Convention Centre.
