Media Advisory - Press Conference for the Commemoration of 30th Anniversary Tiananmen Massacre
TORONTO, March 25, 2019 /CNW/ - With this year's June 4th soon upon us, TADC has prepared a series of events to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Tiananmen Massacre in 1989. As always, our theme continues to be "Never Forget June 4" and "Democracy in China". Particularly, we also want to expose the invasion and influence of "China Model" into Canada.
TADC is holding a press conference to announce this year's many events. We are pleased to have Wang Dan and Rowena He to officially kick off the 30th anniversary commemoration during the press conference. Together with Vancouver Society in Support of Democratic Movement (VSSDM) and Movement of Democracy in China (Calgary) via video link, all three sister organizations will report on our work to each erect a Liu Xiaobo memorial in the host city.
Press conference Date: Wednesday March 27, 2019 Time: 10:45 am - 11:15 am Location: Thomas Lounge, Oakham House, 63 Gould St, Toronto
A public forum held immediately following the above press conference is the first event for our 30th anniversary commemoration. Titled "Dissent, Democracy & Student Activism", this public forum is organized by Ryerson University and sponsored by TADC. Wang Dan, Rowena He and Chris Ramsaroop are the guest speakers in the forum with Kike Roach as moderator.
The forum is opened to the public and will be conducted in English. Admission is free.

Prof. Rowena He is the author of a book Tiananmen Exiles: Voices of the Struggle of Democracy in China and has held seminars at Harvard University on the topic of 1989 Tiananmen Movement and its aftermath. Based on her research and teaching experience, Prof. He will talk about the history and memory of June 4, and its implications on citizenship education. Mr. Ramsaroop is a community activist and an organizer with Justice for Migrant Workers. He will share the impact of June 4 on him as a student activist in the early 90s and as an organizer on migrant workers' rights.
