LONGUEUIL, QC, Oct. 26, 2026 /CNW/ -- On October 29, Canadian Space Agency (CSA) astronaut Colonel Joshua Kutryk will conduct his first spacewalk. Media representatives are invited to the Montreal Science Centre to view the livestream. CSA astronaut David Saint-Jacques will be present to provide commentary and answer questions from journalists.
During the spacewalk, Joshua Kutryk, along with NASA astronaut Anil Menon, will install and deploy solar panels. Joshua will be the fifth CSA astronaut to conduct a spacewalk outside the Station.
Canada will take on multiple roles during the spacewalk:
- CSA astronaut Jenni Gibbons will serve as capcom from NASA's Johnson Space Center, acting as the primary link between ground experts and the crew aboard the Station.
- Canadarm2 will be used to help the astronauts move each rolled-up solar array from the Mobile Base to its new location.
- The CSA's flight control and engineering teams in Longueuil designed the robotic arm's unique sequence for these operations and will monitor and support activities in real time.
The following day, on October 30, media will be invited to speak with Joshua Kutryk during a live space-to-Earth connection.
