Media Advisory - High school student protest - Mobilizing for fair access to running and drinking water! Français
OTTAWA, ON , March 5, 2026 /CNW/ - Students from École secondaire du Chêne-Bleu in Pincourt, in collaboration with the Centrale des syndicats du Québec (CSQ), will protest in front of Parliament in Ottawa to advocate for the right to safe drinking water in Indigenous communities.
Since last fall, approximately 750 students have participated in awareness workshops on this issue. Outraged to learn that Canadians still lack access to running water or safe drinking water in 2026, the students have decided to express their concerns to federal elected officials by organizing a protest scheduled for March 10.
"Indigenous peoples who have lived on these lands for thousands of years deserve the same basic services as the rest of the Canadian population. Access to safe drinking water is a fundamental human right, not a privilege. It's not just an infrastructure issue. It's a matter of justice. It's a matter of respect. It's a matter of equality," said Lorence Davignon, a Secondary 5 student and sponsor of the event.
