Media Advisory - Governor General to speak at the 25th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemorative Service in Gander

OTTAWA, ON, Sept. 10, 2026 /CNW/ -- Her Excellency the Right Honourable Louise Arbour, Governor General and Commander-in-Chief of Canada, will deliver remarks at the Town of Gander's 25^th Anniversary of 9/11 Commemorative Service in Newfoundland and Labrador, on September 11, 2026.

During her visit, she will also engage with members of the Canadian Armed Forces at 9 Wing Gander in her capacity as commander-in-chief of Canada.

Visit to 9 Wing Gander
The Governor General will meet with members of the Canadian Armed Forces at 9 Wing Gander and learn about the search and rescue services provided by 103 Squadron across Newfoundland and Labrador, northeastern Quebec and parts of Nunavut, as well as the role of 9 Operational Support Squadron in North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) operations.

Following a preview performance of the musical Come From Away, the Governor General will meet with the cast--as well as with some of the people who inspired the characters--to celebrate Canadian artistic achievement. Come From Away highlights the warmth, kindness and generosity of Canadians, particularly the residents of Gander and the surrounding communities in Newfoundland and Labrador, during a crisis.
