OTTAWA, ON, April 17, 2026 /CNW/ - Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, will participate in the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII), where she will deliver remarks on April 20, 2026.
The participation of Canada's first Indigenous governor general in this important forum will underscore our country's enduring commitment to reconciliation and the implementation of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Her Excellency's presence will affirm Canada's leadership in advancing Indigenous rights both domestically and globally, highlighting the importance of meaningful Indigenous engagement and reinforcing the value of strong, respectful relationships between Indigenous Peoples and states.
