EDMONTON, AB, Dec. 7, 2020 /CNW/ - On December 7, 2020, The Saskatchewan Minister of Health, The Hon. Paul Merriman, introduced Bill 3 – The Massage Therapy Act to the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly.
The Massage Therapy Act establishes the College of Massage Therapy of Saskatchewan as the regulator and governing body of massage therapists in the province. This is a stand-alone regulatory body, separate from any of the three existing member associations.
Regulation through legislation protects the public from being harmed by treatment or instances of unethical or incompetent practitioners. It also provides title protection for massage therapists.
This is a great day for the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and its massage therapist members who have been very patient and helpful throughout the years of work. The Act brings recognition of health professional status to the vital work of Saskatchewan massage services and creates opportunities for the profession to take its place in delivering professional health services to improve the health and wellness of many.
The NHPC is the largest holistic health association in Canada with local representation and national reach.
It recognizes over 6,400 members and has advocated for massage therapists for over 30 years. The NHPC is committed to strengthening professional standards of Massage Therapists and continues to raise awareness of the benefits of Massage Therapy.
