Media Advisory - GoByBike Sept 28-Oct 4, 2020 replaces Bike to Work & School Week in BC
VANCOUVER, BC, Sept. 28, 2020 /CNW/ - A new event, GoByBike Sept 28-Oct 4, 2020 replaces the cancelled spring Bike to Work & School Week in many communities throughout British Columbia.
The event runs all week throughout BC. People are encouraged to register at www.gobybikebc.ca. They can participate as individuals or join or create a team.
"We encourage people anywhere in BC to register any kind of bike trip, any time during Sept 28-Oct 4 even if only for one day," said Penny Noble, executive director of Go by Bike BC Society. "Why do it? Because, you will feel great, have fun, and qualify for great prizes, including an Exodus Travels cycling trip for two to Portugal (with flexible dates)."
She adds, "Participation also helps communities plan bike infrastructure to make cycling safer and easier. "We have a brand new registration system and website that is easy to use." Individuals or teams can register at www.gobybikebc.ca , log their trips and qualify for prizes.
"Any kind of cycling trip whether to shop, run an errand, to work or to school, or a recreational ride such as a 'mental health break' for those working or learning from home will qualify this year," Noble says.
Noble suggests people may want to try a neighbourhood challenge, get a family or friend team together, or even co-workers, so long as they observe safe physical distancing. "You don't even have to be in the same city to form a team," she explains, "It is all done online."
"Our priority is for people to be safe and healthy and have fun. We ask all participating regions to abide by both Provincial and local Covid protocols," Noble says. "While there may not be the usual celebration stations in all communities there will be lots of incentives to cycle and register trips, such as prizes, webinars, neighbourhood and family rides and scavenger hunts. There will be a variety of innovative and fun ways to stay socially distant and still take part and experience the joy of riding a bike."
