Media Advisory From the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and The Boilermaker Contractors' Association - Management-labour conference to discuss issues in heavy construction, maintenance

TORONTO, July 28, 2015 /CNW/ - Interprovincial training barriers and health and safety issues will highlight an important conference for union and industry players in Canada's heavy construction and maintenance industries Aug. 18-20.

The annual Boilermaker Industry Tripartite Conference, sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers and the Boilermaker Contractors' Association, will be held at the Queen's Landing Hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, beginning at noon on Aug. 18.

A highlight of the conference will be the release of a major report on the costs of duplicate training between provincial jurisdictions. The report, commissioned by the Boilermakers union, was prepared by Prism Economics and Griffiths Shephard Consulting.

Another major focus will be on health and safety, with presentations on the Boilermakers union's new program, Boilermakers Total Health (BtH). In partnership with the US-based National Institute of Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), Canada's Boilermakers union has designed a revolutionary proactive approach to health and safety that benefits both its members and their employers.

The conference is an important one for discussing major issues in the construction and maintenance of large-scale energy, chemical and other plants, including facilities in the Oil Sands.
