Media Advisory - Cowichan Tribes and the Government of Canada recognize the Coast Salish Knitters and the Cowichan Sweater as a national historic event Français
DUNCAN, BC, March 17, 2026 /CNW/ - Cowichan Tribes, Parks Canada, and the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada will hold a plaque unveiling ceremony to commemorate the historic significance of the Coast Salish Knitters and the Cowichan Sweater.
This designation honours generations of Salish fibre knowledge and the cultural resilience, continuity, and innovation embodied in the Cowichan sweater.
Chief Cindy Daniels, Chief of Cowichan Tribes, will attend the event, along with Ron Hallman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Parks Canada, and Michelle Staples, Mayor of Duncan.
