Media Advisory - 1000 Km Inline Skate Fundraiser For Canadian Blind Hockey Comes To Toronto Saturday Sept 4
TORONTO, Sept. 3, 2021 /CNW/ - A team of Blind Hockey players will have their courage on full display as they inline skate 1000 kilometers in communities between Windsor and Ottawa between September 1 to 11. The #COURAGE21 Inline Skate Fundraiser presented by Mackenzie Investments comes through Toronto on Saturday, September 4, with a support rally at the Weston Lions Arena.
Weston native and Blind Hockey player Mark DeMontis famously founded Canadian Blind Hockey under its former name "Courage Canada" by inline skating from Toronto to Vancouver in 2009 and then Halifax home to Toronto in 2011. Weston Lions Arena served as the start point for the first journey, and the arrival location for the second, which makes it a natural stopping point at the halfway mark of the #COURAGE21 campaign.
"The vision has always been focused on giving kids who were blind or partially sighted the opportunity to play hockey, and it is incredible to see what has happened with the growth of the sport over the last ten years," said DeMontis. "I can't think of a better way to celebrate than another inline skate with some teammates through my home province of Ontario and to raise some much-needed funds to keep the vision going for the next ten years."
Local media and the community are invited to come out to the parking lot between 5:00 pm and 5:30 to meet the team, learn more about the Para sport of Blind Hockey, and to show their support for the cause.
Canadian Blind Hockey founder Mark DeMontis, President Kelly Serbu, and the rest of the team will be on site and available for interviews.
