Scholarship Recognizes Top Academic Research: Women in Politics
CALGARY, Nov. 27 /CNW/ - Calgary Ald. Joe Ceci, a member of the National Board of Directors of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) will present the 2009 Mayor Andrée Boucher Memorial Scholarship to University of Calgary student Kathryn Mitrow on Monday, Nov. 30.
The presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. (MST) in Calgary city council chambers at the start of the regularly scheduled city council meeting.
FCM's scholarship, awarded annually to a college or university student judged to have submitted the best research paper on a topic related to women in politics, is named in honour of the late Quebec City mayor Andrée Boucher, who died while in office in 2007.
Ms. Mitrow is being awarded the $2,000 scholarship for her research paper, "Finding the Missing Women in Canadian Politics," which explores how political institutions operate to limit a woman's ability to be a powerful political player.
